Recent Advances of the Myoelectric Hand Prosthesis for the Upper-limb Amputee
Park Se-Hoon

Abstract
There are various types of high-performance myoelectric hand prosthesis controlled by novel electromyographic (EMG) signal processing techniques. Implantable EMG, Targetted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR) are the representative technologies which possible bionic arms to be shown in the market. However, these are not practical in the domestic environment since there is not enough system to implement these technologies and still very expensive. Therefore, we describe most popular and latest two types myoelectric hand prosthesis: The first one is a three finger type to powerfully grasp simple objects; The other is a five finger type enabling hand gesture or special functions (mouse clicking, indexing). Firstly, we analyze the characteristics of these devices from developer and upper-limb amputee point of view. Second, we analyze main trouble to make domestic amputee uncomfortable like malfunction and suggest a three control pattern as a proper solution. Finally, we also suggest a simple and easy diagnosis module to reduce repair time, which reduce the inconvenience of the late a/s response of the mal-functional devices.
